Granny Stitch Cowl

I finally finished something crafty!

I made a warm wooly cowl--now that we are having summer-like temps I thought I would finish this for my winter wardrobe--ummm--just a little out of step with the season I think? :-) 

I love the colors in this yarn.

It is Liberty Wool, color #7865 from Classic Elite Yarns.

The technique for this cowl is from Meg, HERE and Attic24, HERE.

The stitch is from Attic24's Granny Stitch blanket and the cowl idea is Meg's.

It is long enough to go around my neck twice to be snuggly warm.

Overnight

The promise of fresh flowerbuds...... 

We had thunder that woke us at 4am. 

Everything is fresh and dewy after the rain.

Rhody Love

Pretty rhody flowers that take forever to open up all the way

--but so worth the wait!! 

I love the dark pink edges to each petal.

Hummmmmm

Just sit for awhile with me.

Enjoy the spring,

forget that the grass needs mowing yet again!

Notice the color of the leaves on the trees just unfolding,

the bright sun not yet subdued by shade from those trees.

A sunny day and so pretty!

Fresh Faces

Despite the very cold morning temperatures the past several mornings

there are cheerful pansy faces to grace the porch.

I spent this lovely sunny day visiting my mom,

in which I nearly wore her out with my genealogy finds.

I was a real genealogy fiend several years ago and have become interested again.

Did you know that the 1940 census has just been released this past Monday?

It is a bit cumbersome to look through but I couldn't resist. :-)

Bloomy

The crab apple in our front yard is just starting to open it's blooms.

It has been a very early spring, yet so beautiful.

Both girls school breaks are over--very restful.

I'm kind of stalled out with craft projects lately 

while I've been enjoying planning the little front garden along my fence.

These are geraniums that were in the garden last summer.

J wintered them over for me and I got them started in pots recently.

This is the first time we've tried this and it has worked splendidly so far. 

Spring Break

A little spring break going on around here.

The forsythia are putting on a show!

It has been so warm here and that has brought out the lovely blossoms.

Daylight

Little iris bulbs in the sunshine!

My favorite weekend of the year is coming!

I love daylight savings weekend in the spring.

I can't help but be excited to have more daylight at the end of the day.

There will be time for a walks around town admiring all the erupting bulbs.

Calling Spring

Muddy walk in the woods yesterday and there wasn't much happening.

The trees are showing some buds, two robins were out and about

and we saw these skunk cabbages emerging.

They are certainly weird looking things,

pushing up through the fallen brown leaves.

They have a pretty pattern on them though.

I always get a restless yearning this time of the year for

sunshine, warmth and open windows.

Sunshine!!

I was shocked to see a crocus open today!

It is beautiful sunshiney yellow.

Never Too Old

A tiny felt lapel pin that I made for Meg as a kindergartener some years ago.

Em wore it too, a few years back.

But announced in no uncertain terms when she saw it this year that

"she wasn't wearing that to school!"

(hee-hee)

That's alright because I'll wear it. :-)

This is what I made up with the embroidery pattern I posted.

I was thinking about making a wee bag to carry valentines to school in

but made a small wall hanging instead.

Perfect for a first Valentine's Day.

in spite of the rain and chill outside.

Happy Chinese New Year's! 

We decorated a short light strand with little paper lanterns to celebrate.

The red message banners on the wall,

Em and I made a few years ago out of a red plastic tablecloth.

Now to make some Chinese chicken and break open a few fortune cookies.

A Little Snow

Snuggling under a blanket, watching the PBS series "Frontier House"

and knitting a wee rainbow ball.
